Scheffler? Only Tiger Woods had achieved this

American Scottie Scheffler was named the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) on Monday, a feat previously achieved only by fellow countryman Tiger Woods, who holds the all-time record of five consecutive wins (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003) and 11 overall.

This Jack Nicklaus Award is given by a vote of the golfers themselves, although the PGA Tour did not specify the percentage of votes that Scheffler and the other three candidates for the highest individual honor on the American circuit received: Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, Tommy Fleetwood of England and American Ben Griffin.

The 29-year-old Scheffler capped off another sensational season by adding another six PGA titles to his 19-year record, including two major championships (US PGA, British Open), bringing his total to four after winning two Masters titles (2022, 2024).

Therefore, only the US Open is missing for Scottie to join the select group of golfers who have completed the Grand Slam, a club that McIlroy joined this year after his Masters victory, the sixth in history after Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

Scheffler, a marvel of consistency since his first victory at the 2022 Phoenix Open, finished 2025 with the lowest round-to-round average (68.13) for the third year in a row, and with another compelling statistic from his regularity: he has the best first-round average (67.45), second (68.00), third (68.40) and fourth (68.10), the first golfer to achieve the feat since Tiger Forest in 2000.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old South African Aldrich Potgieter was named Rookie of the Year after winning his first title at the Rocket Classic and becoming the only one of 36 PGA Tour rookies to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoff.

The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are played outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a fundamental element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often produces distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the inability of many players to adhere to the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, called etiquette, which generally means that the game is played with respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential part of this sport.
