FSIB, the Headhunter for Banks and Financial Institutions Directors, has recommended Ravi Ranjan for the position of director of State Bank of India (SBI).

Ranjan, currently deputy director, would replace the director Vinay M Tonk, who would complete his term on November 30, 2025.

Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) interviewed nine candidates on 11 September 2025 for the position of Managing Director (MD) in SBI, the agency said in a statement.

“Their performance in the interface, their overall experience and the existing parameters, the Ravi Ranjan agency recommends the position of MD in SBI,” said it.

The SBI board is led by chairman, assisted by four managing directors.

The final decision on FSIB’s recommendation would be taken by the Cabinet’s appointment committee, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

FSIB is led by former secretary, Ministry of Staff and Training (DOPT), Bhanu Pratap Sharma.

Other members of the Headhunter are Animers Chauhan, former chairman and MD of former Eastern Bank of Commerce, RBI’s ex-executing director Deepak Singhal, and Challandra Bhandari, former MD of the former ING Ingen.
