Manchester United have just received a frustrating report in their pursuit of Newcastle United midfield dynamo Sandro Tonali.
Out of nowhere, reports emerged that Tonali was among the other midfielders United were looking at, putting him on their transfer wishlist.
Admired for his tenacious defensive work, sharp vision and ability to convert play quickly, the Italian is considered Casemiro’s ideal heir.
Replace Casemiro
Not so long ago the news broke that the Brazilian midfielder would leave in the summer. His expected departure has shifted the conversation around United’s midfield search to one pressing question: who is the perfect Casemiro replacement?
The ex-Real Madrid star has had highs and lows at the club, but throughout this season his influence has been undeniable. Whenever he was absent or sent off, United struggled and looked defensively vulnerable.
Despite not being as athletic as he once was, the Samba star still dominates the center of the park. United believe that if they can get a younger version of him, their midfield can be in good shape for years to come.
Although Elliot Anderson was seen by many as the ideal replacement for Casemiro, a switch to his services is becoming more difficult by the day.
Tonali as Anderson’s alternative
INEOS may be forced to consider other options, and Tonali has emerged as a viable alternative to the Nottingham Forest man.
But according to Give me sportsa move for the Newcastle midfielder could be even more complicated.

“Sandro Tonali is ready to reject Man Utd, Arsenal and Man City and join European giants.”
They explain: “While Tonali does not want to completely ignore interest from the top Premier League clubs, it is understood that he would be very keen to make a move to Juve if the opportunity arises.”
Frustrating pursuit in midfield
Tonali’s attitude does not benefit United’s transfer ambitions.
However determined they are to strengthen their engine room, the 20-time English champions cannot afford a long story.
INEOS would be wise to target players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo who, when approached before signing, were willing to join them.
With worrying updates on both Tonali and Anderson, it will be interesting to see how United’s midfield chase reshapes itself.
That said, as difficult as it is to replace Casemiro, INEOS may already have a ready-made successor within the club.
