A museum exhibition is exploring the history of one of the most important racecourses of the UK, because it marks an important milestone.

Sandown Park in Esher, Surrey, celebrates 150 years since it was founded in 1875 with exhibitions that showed the origin of the racing course, the royal left and the part it played when developing modern horse races.

The course, the first specially built location with paid access and enclosures, is the center of the exhibition in the House of Killik in Esher High Street, which runs until 31 October.

Sarah Drabwell, general director of Sandown Park, said that the racecourse “was extremely proud that he was part of the local Elmbridge community” for the past 150 years. “

In 1875, Sandown’s entrance fee of at least half a crown made it one of the first courses to charge RaceGoers to attend his events.

During the First World War, the racecourse was sown with crops to support war efforts, while during both conflicts during both conflicts during the Second World War and the Welsh Guard, the Royal Engineers houses his.

A spokesperson for the Elmbridge Museum, which helped to create the exhibition, said: “One hundred and fifty years is a memorable milestone and a great opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage, to define moments and communities that have formed the racecourse over the years.

“We hope that visitors would like to explore his fascinating story and legacy, and we are grateful to Killik for the friendly hosting of the display in their buildings.”

The exhibition is free to attend, but visitors are invited to make a donation to the Community Fund, a new charity that aims to bundle funds for projects in Elmbridge.
