It is official-san Jose’s district 3 special elections will undergo a recount while Anthony Tordillos will hold a five votes lead over Matthew Quevedo for a place in June with leader Gabby Chavez-Lopez.
Since the election day, the race for the second place has been Nip and Tuck, with Tordillos and Quevedo Flip flop positions several times during the last one and a half weeks.
With few voices to be processed, the Santa Clara County Registrar or Voters set the recovery for next week while San Jose is closer to selecting a representative for the city center and the surrounding neighborhoods.
“We appreciate the diligent work of everyone who works to guarantee a quick and accurate count,” said Quevedo Friday. “We appreciate everyone who voted and heard his voice in this election, whether for our campaign for common sense or not. We see in real time how important it is that every mood is released and counted.”
Chavez-Lopez, the executive director of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, continued to lead to the field of seven people trying to replace the former city councilor Omar Torres, who resigned in November because of the charges of sexual abuse that he did not argue for this month for this month.
Although the race will go through until the summer, Carl Salas, appointed as the 3 -seater district at the end of January, will continue to serve in interim -heredity until a winner is explained.
Although Chavez-Lopez received 30% of the votes, its strong performance was not enough to achieve an outright victory, because that status is only reserved for those who earn more than 50% of the votes.
Tordillos, a Google engineer from Trade, and Quevedo, mayor Matt Mahan’s deputy chef, have taken it out for second place, in which both candidates earn just over 22% of the votes.
Pundits had linked Chavez-Lopez, Tordillos and Quevedo to one of the leading candidates because of their qualifications and strong skills to start fundraising in the race that the top seven figures have spent, largely because of the infusion of special interest money.
While Tordillos was the only candidate of the three who had been dropped off donations of lobbyists and companies, he and Quevedo both put themselves on the market as candidates trying to break the status quo.
The Race of District 3 could also play a key role about whether Mahan successfully implemented his policy agenda the following year, because his block currently has a slim voting advantage on stage that could shift if Quevedo did not win the chair.
Because of his loyalty to Mahan, Quevedo’s policy platform largely reflected the types of proposals that came from the mayor’s office.
After Quevedo had an advantage of 159 votes on the election evening, Tordillos immediately cut his lead before he finally took second place this week and held it.
Irene Smith, who challenged Torres in the 2022 elections, finished fourth with 16% of the votes, followed by Adam Duran, Tyrone Wade and Phil Dolan.
The district policy determines an automatic assessment for competitions with a victory margin less than 0.25% or where that margin is less than 25 votes.
Michael Borja, as an associated communication officer at the province, said that the recount would start at 8:00 am on 24 April. While the count could drag the next day, he said it was very likely that election officers would end up in the 24th.
Borja added that before the recount, the county would also complete a 1% manual counting in a joint chosen for random “to check, we did everything well.”
At the time of the last mood, the county estimated that 18 unprocessed ballot papers remained from Friday morning. All those ballot papers were challenged and were awaiting characteristic verification.
Borja said that the affected until the end of next week would heal their ballot papers and the province plans to update the voting part on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Kurt Frewing, a spokesperson for the Tordillos campaign, referred the Mercury news to statements from the past when he was asked for comment.
“We have to count every voice and there is more to count,” Frewing said. “We have crushed the expectations of the special interests and experts and we look forward to this process.”
