Samsung Wallet is also preparing to support instant online payments using stored credit and debit cards on major merchant platforms, without users having to manually enter card details. This extends its commitment to secure, integrated digital transactions.
Samsung Wallet will support UPI-linked small-ticket transactions by leveraging users’ biometrics registered on their devices, eliminating the need to use a PIN for every transaction, a senior company official said.
Madhur Chaturvedi, Senior Director, Services & Apps Business, Samsung India, said the facility will be rolled out from December.
“Samsung Wallet’s authentication experience has been enhanced by introducing biometric verification, device fingerprint and facial recognition, eliminating the need to enter a PIN for everyday use. Users can access the app and make UPI payments using just their Galaxy device’s fingerprint or facial recognition,” Chaturvedi said.
Currently, UPI Lite users can pay for small transactions without a PIN.
Chaturvedi said the new Samsung smartphones, which will be launched from early next year, will come with a UPI account onboarding feature that will allow users to add their UPI account at the time of setting up their new device.
He said Samsung Wallet will soon begin supporting direct online use of stored credit and debit cards at a wide range of major merchants, without the need to manually enter card details.
