Fasig-Tipton yearling sales are being renewed
A greater regional focus is the goal

Fasig-Tipton is renewing its annual fall yearling sale in Timonium, Maryland for 2026, introducing a new format, new date and a restored name for the venerable auction. The sale will once again be known as Eastern Fall Yearlings, reflecting the deep roots of the sale and its continued importance to breeders, owners and trainers in the region – at a time of positive momentum for eastern racing.
“Fasig-Tipton has a long, storied history of selling horses in Timonium, and these sales have been a staple in this racing-rich area for decades,” said Boyd Browning, president of Fasig-Tipton. “There is a bright future ahead for the region, and we believe this is a good time to reorganize our yearling sales to promote this regional momentum and bring a renewed focus on the strength of eastern racing and what it has to offer.”

Major regional developments, including the construction of new race tracks at Pimlico Race Course and Belmont Park, mark the beginning of an exciting new era for Midlantic and Northeast racing tracks. Other positive developments include a new Maryland Million year-round starting bonus series; a record 48 days of racing at Colonial Downs this year; and purse parity for New York-bred horses, which now match open company levels on the NYRA circuit.
“We will be reorganizing the catalog to give more focus to each of the state programs represented in the sale each year,” Browning said. “We are also moving the sale to the end of October to tie it in with Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, a major race day that is also being expanded for 2026.”
Regional focus and catalog reorganization
The reorganized Eastern Fall Yearlings catalog will spotlight the region’s six state-bred programs: Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
The catalog will be structured so that each state-bred program will have its own section, grouping all yearlings from that state. Each section begins with an introductory page describing that state’s breeding and racing incentives.
Additionally, information pages will detail the Delaware-certified and Virginia-certified programs, helping buyers understand additional regional incentive opportunities.
“This revised structure is designed to make each state program shine,” Browning noted. “It should be of particular interest to New York breeders as it would provide them with a smaller but similar experience to our New York-bred yearling sale in the summer as all New York-bred animals are cataloged together.”
Strategic timing with Maryland Million
The 2026 Eastern Fall Yearlings Sale will take place on Tuesday, October 27, strategically scheduled around Jim McKay Maryland Million Day, which will be held the previous Saturday at Laurel Park.
“Executing the Maryland Million sale is a natural fit as it ties into one of the region’s premier racing days,” Browning said. “We are pleased to be working with Maryland Million and hope that this partnership will bring greater visibility to both of our events, at a time when Maryland Million is making exciting new enhancements to its program.”
Fasig-Tipton will sponsor both divisions of Sandy Bottom S. on Virginia Derby Day
As part of Fasig-Tipton’s continued investment and commitment to Eastern racing, the company will sponsor both divisions of the Sandy Bottom S. for senior fillies and mares on the Virginia Derby undercard at Colonial Downs on March 14.
