Sale of the Century co-host Alyce Platt lists renovated Elwood home – realestate.com.au

Actress, musician and quiz show host Alyce Platt is hoping for her own sale of the century after putting her Elwood home of 25 years on the market.

The artist, who starred in Neighbors and Sons and Daughters, became a household name after appearing alongside Tony Barber on the hit Aussie game show.

More recently, she has made a career as a singer and songwriter and has released several albums.

One of these, aptly titled Bain Douche (French for bath-shower), was first shot in the downstairs bathroom of the renovated Edwardian home she has just put up for sale for between $2.3 and $2.5 million.

“The acoustics were so great there and during Covid you were baking bread or learning songs from the band Bread, and that’s what I did,” Platt said.

“So I ended up making all these recordings of songs I’d never played before, and I videotaped myself and put them online. Then I got a government grant to make an album out of it.”

It’s one of many fond memories the artist has of the eclectic three-bedroom home in Thackeray St, Elwood, a coveted bayside address less than a stone’s throw from the waterfront.

Inspired by the gardens of landscape designer Edna Wallis, Platt has created a series of ‘outdoor rooms’.

The industrial chic custom kitchen is equipped with a Smeg oven and Bosch dishwasher.

The television star’s friends say the house feels like an oasis.

“At the end of my street is the beach and that’s probably the most idyllic, most special place to watch the sunset and I’m a real sunset seeker,” she said.

“There’s a chair in front of what is now a beautiful dog park… and if you can’t find me, I’ll be there often – it’s a magical place.”

Platt extended the original cottage before moving in, adding a north-facing living area to the rear with a bespoke kitchen, library and conservatory opening onto a lush garden.

Upstairs, she installed an apartment-like retreat with a private balcony, private bathroom and kitchenette.

Many of Platt’s famous friends, including Barber and Neighbors cast members, have been enjoying meals at home.

The residence features a chandelier gifted to Platt by her friends, Hollywood stars and former couple Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness.

However, the chandelier is not sold with the house.

In 2024, Ms Furness stayed with Platt following her divorce from Jackman.

Platt reunited with former Sale of the Century host Tony Barber in 2005.

The living room at the front has a fireplace and stained glass windows.

When her mother Norma moved in in 2017, she converted the flexible bedroom at the front into an extra living space to create an extra independent space.

The building’s double street facades allowed both generations to live independently.

“My mother had her own secluded private entrance and we entered through the back of Pozieres Ave and we were together for ages,” Platt said.

“Then I did it as a place to stay for Airbnb and that was incredibly successful.”

Platt describes the top floor as a pied-à-terre, a small second home, with its own terrace.

“It has great appeal to the bayside market because it offers a beautiful frontage and a very flexible layout,” he said.
