What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than watching a classic rom-com or steamy drama with your partner or best friends?

From Pretty Woman to The Notebook, they are iconic films that will make you laugh, cry and feel all the feels.

Let’s face it: most people want a love like the main characters – and many are, more than they’d like to admit, fanatical about living out the scenes that make these films so popular.

So for those with a theatrical flair, here are a few SA homes where you can recreate those memorable moments.

Get ready for realestate.com.au and relax!

The notebook

Let’s start with perhaps the most recognizable romantic dramas of the modern era.

Most people know that lake scene from The Notebook, even if they haven’t seen the 2004 film—for a second, Noah and Allie peacefully row along as it starts to rain.

They quickly rush back to land and like the rain, emotions that have been hidden for years suddenly pour out before they embrace each other for a passionate kiss – the frozen shot is literally the film’s promotional poster.

For those who daydream about reliving that heartfelt moment, a Yatala Vale property at 488-500 Yatala Vale Rd is the place to do it.

It has a lake that looks almost identical to the one in the movie, only smaller, and even a dock to dock a small boat.

With several scenes and one-liners that are regularly referenced more than twenty years later, the 2003 Christmas film Love Actually is still wildly popular.

There are several famous moments in the film, some heartwarming and some heartbreaking.

One of the greatest celebrations of love is the wedding of Peter and Julia. A surprise rendition of “All You Need is Love” plays after they are pronounced husband and wife, putting a smile on everyone’s faces.

To recreate the moving scene all you need is love, a singer with a heavenly voice of course, a choir and the converted church at 18 Victoria Rd, Clare.

Place them on the mezzanine floor while you and your partner enjoy the private show from the ground floor by the fire.

The holiday

Another romantic viewing piece, The Holiday is chock full of sickly sweet moments in romantic locations.

One place that appears regularly in the 2006 film is a quaint English cottage owned by Kate Winslet’s character Iris.

Cameron Diaz’s character Amanda spends a period of time in the house where she meets and quickly falls in love with Iris’ brother Graham, played by Jude Law.

Whether you’re in a long-term relationship or exploring a new one, cozying up by the fire with a bottle of wine at this Burra cottage at 5 Penglawdd St is the closest you can get to reliving the movie moments without leaving the state.

Everyone but you

A more modern rom-com, Everyone But You follows the classic enemies-to-lovers storyline.

Even if you didn’t like your crush before you got together, scenes from the 2023 film are some of the easiest to recreate because it was shot in Australia.

The steamy and much-discussed moment between main characters Bea and Ben on a boat, while they try to convince their friends and family that they like each other, is a perfect example of this.

With some warm weather and a fiery appeal, the waterfront of a Hindmarsh Island estate at 40 Edison St could easily provide the backdrop for a similar moment.

Although, if you’re “hot-girl fit” like Ben, we wouldn’t recommend swimming too far…

When Harry met Sally

We all know the restaurant scene. Say “I’ll have what she eats” and most people will understand right away.

For those who don’t, go see the 1989 film that is considered a defining film of the romantic comedy genre, as this is not the place to describe such a scene in detail.

If you’ve ever thought about testing to see if you could get away with acting, but are afraid you’ll be kicked out of the establishment, why not buy the restaurant first?

There is one at Munno Para, Lot 203/2 Curtis Rdit is home to a Nando’s.

The owners certainly won’t be turned away for trying the classic scene, it just might lead to more people wanting the same thing.

However, we recommend that you warn customers about what you are doing first so that some people have time to leave. After all, it is a family restaurant.

Romeo + Juliet

Okay, so this isn’t strictly a romantic comedy, but we thought it deserved a mention because let’s face it: William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet may be the greatest love story ever told.

Strictly speaking, it’s just not a comedy. And that’s in large part due to all the deaths and tragedies.

Either way, buy this house in Port Lincoln and you can recreate director Baz Luhrmann’s iconic scene where the doomed lovers meet for the first time, their eyes glued to an aquarium.

Granted, one of you will have to dive into this, but still. You get the point…

The Port Lincoln property at 16-18 North Point Ave has an epic aquarium.

American beauty

Again, not strictly a romantic comedy, but Valentine’s Day is the time for red roses and this scene has a ton of them (if you’ll pardon the pun)

Sometimes love is forbidden, so while we wouldn’t necessarily recommend reenacting the scene where Kevin Spacey tries to seduce his daughter’s boyfriend, there’s nothing stopping you from treating your loved one to a bath full of rose petals.

And when it comes to baths, we don’t know of any cooler than this one at 26 Caloroga Street, Wattle Park.

Furthermore, its see-through nature allows you to view your loved one in all his glory.
