The Ryder Cup will be played this week in Bethpage Black in New York, and the progress of more than one player in the iconic location will be followed sharply in India.
That’s because Europe Team Mats Viktor HOVALAND Shane Lowry has joined the access list for the $ 4 million DP World India Championship next month,
They will start in addition to teammates Rory Mcilroy and Tommy Fleetwood in the Delhi Golf Club from 16 to 19 October during the event with the biggest prize fund ever offered for a DP World Tour event in India.
Big winner Lowry, who will lift the Claret at Royal Portush in 2019, will make his third consecutive Ryder Cup in the defense of the trophy that Europe won in Rome two years ago.
The Irishman, who last played in Delhi on Avanha Masters 2010, said: “I’m really looking forward to going back to Delhi for the first edition of the DP World India Championship.”
HOVLAND, the first Norwegian to win on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, claimed his 11th worldwide title on the Valspar Championship in Florida.
The 27-year-old will join Lowry when making a third performance for Team Europe during this year’s Ryder Cup.
First visit
“I have heard a lot about Delhi as a city and I am excited to make it for the first time in India on such a historic golf course,” said the Genial HOVOLAND.
“It’s a great event and I am looking forward to everything about the experience.”
The DP World India Championship is co-geshanctioned by the professional wave tour through India and marks a new chapter for professional wave in India.
With four Ryder Cup stars in the field, together with home Held Shubhankar Sharma, the tournament promises to be a striking events of the season on Indian soil.
“We are all very enthusiastic about the DP World India championship. I can’t wait to return to Delhi Golf Club,” said the 29-year-old from Chandigarh.
“It is a historical course – I have played a lot as a junior and I have very good memories. It is a tough course, it is iconic, and I am sure that the DP World Tour players who played there will remember well.
Potential game changer
“If players such as McIlroy such as the reigning Masters Champion and Fedexcup Champion Fleetwood come to the event, things like this can change in India.
“I remember that Tiger Woods played an exhibition match many years ago and the impact that walked with him had on me, so to have such an incredible field to the country, this event will really make it special.”
The DP World India Championship is the eighth of the nine events in the ‘Back 9’ phase of the 2025 race to Dubai, which builds to the seasonal DP World Tour-Play-Offs.
The Tour culminates in the DP World Tour Championship in November in Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
