“I will never give up the Ryder Cup, you know,” he said.
“I’ll just not do it, so that’s it.”
On Monday, Wallace probably already knew, when Luke Donald Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, Sepp Sepp Straka, Viktor HOvland, Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick mentioned his six assigned Captain Picks for the European team. Still, when he was asked for Wallace and other snubs, Donald recognized on Sky Sports that he had seen the Wallace interview.
“Of course an extremely difficult call to do Matt,” said Donald. “Of course, all golf looked yesterday, saw his emotion. It simply shows what it means for Europeans to represent your country, represent your flag to represent that comb.
“It is so sad. It is a difficult part of the work to call these people who have played their hearts for 12 months and think they have done enough. And I really hope that some of those near-accident will be part of the team in two years.”
This makes a look at nine bubble players who are left behind the European Ryder Cup team.
