It is reasonable to say that Ryan Gravenberch has had an eventful return to action on his first competitive appearance of the season tonight!
The 23-year-old was booked in a fiery opening for 10 minutes in St James’ Park, but after Liverpool ended a period of persistent pressure from Newcastle, the Dutch midfielder broke the impasse against the game in the 35th minute.
The number 38 of the Reds took about 30 meters and had time to put himself before he flared a powerful shot through the legs of Bruno Guimaraes and along Nick Pope, with the ball nested in the net of the home team.
Gravenberch ends 16 months of goals drought
It is remarkable that it was from Gravenberch First goal for his club since he had a 3-1 victory at Fulham In April 2024, the midfielder did not score in the entire season 2024/25 despite enjoying a great campaign when he forged a powerful partnership with Alexis Mac Allister.
The Dutchman scored Four goals in 1,839 minutes on the field during his first campaign with Liverpool, but surprising not found the net last term Although they have much more playing time (4,207 minutes).
Relief for Gravenberch – and for Liverpool
You would not have known that the 23-year-old had gone so long without scoring if you had seen his sweet strike against Newcastle isolated, but he took his goal brilliant and left St James’ park after the home team had been dominant.
Gravenberch will undoubtedly be relieved to end his 16 -month goal of drought, with a lack of end product in the last third, perhaps the only criticism that can be aimed at the midfielder during an excellent campaign of 2024/25.
If it turns out to be the winner for Liverpool in a stormy match in which Anthony Gordon was seen red during the break, it will be worth his weight in gold for the Premier League champions.
Hopefully it is the first of many for the stylish midfield operator in his third season as a Reds player.
