The rules of golf are difficult! Fortunately we have the guru. Our guy rules know the book from the front to the back. Do you have a question? He has all the answers.
Can a player in an individual battle competition be directly behind me while helping him find out his line? Does the rule differ for the best competition? —Bokkie Gerber, via e -mail
Yes – with comments – and yes.
In the individual player game, no rule forbids another player to stand for themselves on an extension of the play line behind your ball. However, if the player distracts you and you ask them to move, they should; Although in this case the rules do not prevent them from standing behind someone, it is certainly considered a bad etiquette. (Not in the chance that the other player gave advice or you helped in one way or another, then there may be a violation of rules 10.2b (4) or 10.2a) or 10.2a.)
In the foursome, rules 22.6 and 23.8, however, prohibit your partner in that position to learn something for their own putt, otherwise they will be fined.

This morning a gentleman in the four of us made the habit of stamping with his putter around the hole (always in his line of Putt, of course). When I question this ‘gardening’, he claimed that the greens keeper did not do their work well when they changed holes. I happen to know better because I am one of those greens keeper. Which rule should I quote? —Bob keifling, seibring, fla.
Clearly, You Are the Lord because you chose to take the high route instead of powerful around the Noggin of this Clod!
Let the rules do for you next time. Players can repair “damage” to the Green well, which includes the gap and the area around it, even if this improves the play line. But (!) Normal maintenance practices, natural wear and natural surface ignisance are not damage as defined by rule 13.1c (2) and may not be repaired.
If his tamping changes the ground and improves a condition that influences the battle, such as Spellijn, then rule 8.1a applies and he gets the general punishment of two strokes when playing a stroke and the loss of gaps in match play. Who is not doing his job well?
