The royals designated outfielder Joey Wiemer earlier today, and shifted left -handed Kris Bubic From the 15-day wounded list to the 60-day IL. The movements knew around 40-man schedule space after a busy day of transactions for Kansas City, such as Mike Yastrzemski” Bailey Wankel” Stephen KolekAnd Ryan Bergert were all brought to the organization.
Wiemer came to KC in another prominent trade last November, when Wiemer and Jonathan India came to the royals of the Reds in exchange for Brady singer. Wiemer has not received a big league playing time since the deal and he has only beaten .182/.291/.312 over 296 plate appearances at Triple-a Omaha. This is the fourth consecutive season of Wiemer with at least a little action at the Triple-A level, and after a number of large numbers with the top filiate of the Brewers in 2022, his production has steadily decreased.
Almost all of Wiemer’s big league experience came from 2023 in his Rookie season, when he hit .204/.283/.362 over 410 plate performances with Milwaukee. He stole 11 bases in 15 attempts and showed very good gloves on all three outfield spots, and the same skills in combination with his hoarse bravery early in his Minor League career, Wiemer helped to get some top 100 prospect attention. However, he only made 28 trips on the record about 21 games with the Brewers and Reds in 2024, and the royals are now the third team that apparently loses trust in Wiemer’s ability to turn it on the record. Some teams can take a kite on Wiemer as a late bloomer.
Even like a glove with only glove only, Wiemer has some value for other teams in the exemption wire, especially now that the deadline has passed and the depth options are more difficult to acquire. If Wiemer cleans up exemptions, he cannot reject an outright assignment from the 40-man schedule of the royals, because he has no from the past on his resume or enough service time to be eligible for a free agency.
Bubic will miss the rest of the season because of a Rotatormanchet, so it was just a matter of time before the royals made it officially by placing the Southpaw on the 60-day IL.
