Legend Roy Keane of Manchester United has revealed where he believes that Ruben Amorim’s side will end this season – and fans may want to look away now.
A bad start or an unfortunate one?
The Red Devils are currently eleventh in the Premier League table after a frustrating start of the new campaign.
Two victories – against Burnley and Chelsea – were balanced by losses to Arsenal and Manchester City, with a draw road to Fulham that turns the first five luminaires.
But the versions of United, in particular from an XG (expected goals) and the perspective of the accidental creation, should have seen Arsenal beat, in contrast to losing 1-0 with thanks to an Altay Bayindir Howler, and all three points against Fulham had a penalty.
With these extra five points, United would be second, only three behind League leaders Liverpool and the story about Amorim would be drastically different from the one who is currently unfolding.
However, football is not played on a spreadsheet and mistakes have been a position in the term of the Portuguese coach at Old Trafford.
It was his decision to favor Bayindir for the opening match against Arsenal, despite the clear weaknesses of the Turkey international, and many of last season’s wounds were reopened by Fulham in the second half.
The 2-1 victory over Chelsea during the weekend was crucial and the versions of United were radically improved of the disappointing defeat of Manchester Derby the last week.
The Red Devils started the game like a bat from hell with the early edition that forced the resignation of Robert Sanchez. But it is difficult to analyze a performance in which the opposition was reduced to ten men for half of the game, even if Casemiro leveled the procedure just before the break.
United remains a work in progress and Amorim is still a manager who is very busy with doubt that the viability of his characteristic 3-4-2-1 system continues.
And a former player certainly believes that this season will probably not end without major improvements on the field – or the table.
Mid -to -tabid medium for Man United
Keane believes that a midtable finish would form a “decent” campaign for his former side when asked where he thought they would end the season.
“I am thinking of the eighth or ninth would be decent for United, I really do – you are not sure what you will get. It helps when the keeper is sent, and you have people like Bruno [Fernandes].
“But I think that’s not enough, I still think United is looking at eighth or ninth,” the 54-year-old expert told Sky Sports.
Keane is the typical throwback expert, the type to believe that football has become ‘soft’ in modern times and makes the idea of ’XG’ ridiculous or uses other underlying statistics to justify a lack of points on the table.
But it is precisely these statistics that the hierarchy in Old Trafford points out to justify their constant trust in their head coach. Whether this wise move is still to be seen – but the former captain of the club is certainly not convinced.
