Roy Jones JR received the Olympic gold medal that he was controversial in 1988 in an extraordinary act of sportiness by the South Korean hunter who hit him.
Hall of Fame boxer Jones shared a video from two years ago on Wednesday that Park Si-Hun had the Ranch of the American in Pensacola, Florida visited to present him the light middleweight gold medal.
“I had the gold medal, but I want to give it back to you. It’s yours”, Park said in the video by his son, who translated.
Jones, who was overcome by the gesture by the gesture, covered his face with his hand before he said, “Wow, that’s crazy.”
Their match at the Seoul Olympic Games remains one of the most controversial moments of Boxing when Jones seemed to dominate the fight, but lost to Park through a 3-2 decision that took immediate criticism and lead to permanent controversy.
Despite losing the gold medal match, Jones was selected as the Val Barky Trophy winner as the best boxer of the 1988 Olympic Games. Jones became a world champion of four division and is considered one of the best pound-for-pound hunters of the sport of all time.
“In 1988 I was deprived of the gold medal in what became one of the greatest controversies in boxing history,” Jones wrote in his Instagram post.
“Because of the grace of God, a few years ago, the man who won that medal made the journey of South Korea to my house to bring it back to me, the feeling that it was right to me.
“I hope you enjoy this moment as much as I do.”
