Rotten Tomatoes critics and users are cursing ‘The Witcher’ season 4

The witcher Season 4, which sees Henry Cavill replaced by Liam Hemsworth, is getting a harsh reception Rotten Tomatoes critics and users.

Cavill, of course, played Geralt of Rivia, aka the title character, on the hit Netflix series for three seasons, from 2019 to 2023. However, in 2022, Cavill shocked audiences with a Instagram post which announced that the series’ third season would be its last.

As with the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced man.”

At least, judging by the reviews and ratings Rotten Tomatoeshis critics and audiences aren’t entirely fascinated by Hemsworth taking up the mantle of Geralt.

All eight episodes of The witcher Season 4 dropped on Netflix on Thursday. To date, Rotten Tomatoes critics have given season 4 a 53% “rotten” rating based on 17 reviews, while the season also received a 19% “rotten” Popcornmeter score based on over 100 verified user reviews.

Aramid Tinubu from Variety belongs to the top critics RT who gives The witcher Season 4 a ‘fresh’ review, stating: ‘In a much sharper and less complicated season than the last, The witcher Season 4 is action-packed and full of dazzling characters, both old and new.”

Ed Power from Great Britain Daily Telegraph also gives the new season of The Witcher a “fresh” review RTbut notes that Hemsworth’s “quietly ridiculous turn is nevertheless perfectly tailored for a show that harkens back to the time before fantasy was cool and (just about) gets by on sheer silliness.”

Sarah Dempster of the Guardian also calls out Hemsworth in her “rotten” review RTwriting, “While his predecessor gave Geralt I a gruff likeability, Geralt II is less ‘brave man-mountain struggling with responsibilities beyond our reach’ and more ‘bolder in a wig.’

Chase Hutchinson from The cover also gives The witcher Season 4 a ‘rotten’ review on RT, writing that where Henry Cavill “brought a real presence to the role – managing to be gruffly funny one moment and believably brutal the next – Hemsworth is merely an anchor for the whole experience from which The witcher can’t break free.
