On the way to the 2025 Masters, Rory McIlroy needed a good Juju to help him about the mental barriers that had prevented him from winning a green jacket until that moment. And he may have received that help in the form of a secret happiness brenger that he wore every day at Augusta National during his winning week.
New -Zeeland Tour Pro Ryan Fox unveiled the previously unknown Masters pieces in a recent media call.
Ryan Fox reveals McIlroy’s unlikely Masters Good Luck Charm
Since his disastrous collapse on Sunday at the Masters 2011, McIlroy had struggled in Augusta. Nobody ever wondered that he had the talent to claim a green jacket, but that only contributed to the pressure. After winning the Open Championship 2014, the Masters became the last leg McIlroy that was needed to complete the career Grand Slam.
That didn’t help with the pressure.
But this year’s all-time in Northern Ireland is finally of that Augusta Demons and Justin Rose defeated in a play-off to finally earn his green coat and Grand Slam.
After his Masters triumph, McIlroy opened about how the pressure to win the Masters had influenced him over the past decade. However, he did not reveal the lucky base he had worn to Augusta during his victorious romp this year.
Fox gave us the goods there.
It turned out at the end of last year that McIlroy made a trip to play Tara Iti in New Zealand, arranged in 20th place in the top 100 jobs of Golf in the world. He played alongside Fox and former New Zealand Prime Minister John Key. During the trip, Key McIlroy presented with a special gift: a pounamu.

Fox met McIlroy at the PGA championship 2025 in May, a month after the Masters, and that was when Rory revealed how much the pounamu meant to him. He told Fox that he had carried it through the Magnolia Lane every day during the Mastersweek.
“Rors said a bit to me the first time I saw him after Augusta, and I had just won Myrtle Beach,” John had given me that [pounamu] And I felt it was good luck. I was wearing Magnolia Lane every day, “Fox Unveiled in a media call for the BMW Australian PGA Championship 2025. “John actually sent me a picture of him in a golf cart with Rory who wore his pounamu, which was really cool.”
“It’s a sign of prestige, we call it mana,” Fox explained. “It clearly means a lot for Rory … It was a nice little story that we had a little kiwi on him when he was in Augusta.”
Where Rory is in Fedex Cup Playoffs and Ryder Cup
Whether or not you attribute the happiness of McIlroy at the Masters of this year to his pounamu, happiness seemed to be running out when he left Augusta. He finished T47 at the PGA and then missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open, which Fox won for his second victory of the season.

With three victories in the year, McIlroy is comfortable on top of the rankings of the European Ryder Cup, and he expects to play a major role at Bethpage Black in September.
But first he has to participate in the FedEx Cup play -offs. McIlroy caused a little controversy when he chose to skip the first round of the play -offs, the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship of this week. Currently in the second place in the FedEx Cup classification behind Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy will instead start his play -offs at next week’s BMW championship.
The play -offs end at the Tour Championship in East Lake, as they have had for many years. But a big change this year is that there will be no starting regions at the final. Despite a fantastic season, McIlroy will start the Tour Championship with even everyone else while he competitions for his fourth career Fedex Cup title.
