Roomba goes bankrupt, but says vacuum cleaners don’t break

iRobot, the maker of Roomba robot vacuum cleaners, simply crashed into a wall. The Massachusetts-based company filed for bankruptcy this weekend after years of financial strain, but the company said customers don’t have to worry about their devices suddenly shutting down or “shattering” during the restructuring.

The filing comes after fierce competition from cheaper rivals and a failed 2024 sale to Amazon that sent iRobot’s shares plummeting. Because many of Roomba’s features rely on the company’s app, customers feared devices would shut down if operations were halted.

But iRobot says customer support and app access will continue. Under the plan, the main manufacturer will take ownership, allowing the company to continue humming along.
