Rohit Sharma hits stunning 155 off 94 balls in Vijay Hazare Trophy

The Klop

Rohit Sharma, who was included in the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in Mumbai a few days ago, started the innings in an attacking manner, something seen in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and put pressure on the opposition bowlers.

He was strict on the bad balls and made full use of them by sending them into the boundary, taking the pressure off Angkrish Ranghubanshi, who opened the batting with Rohit and gave him good support by scoring 38 runs off 58 balls.

Raghuvanshi, holding one end, allowed Rohit to continue playing an attacking game, bringing an already subpar overall picture within Mumbai’s reach.

This was Rohit’s 37th ton in List A cricket, including 33 hundreds, which the right-hander has scored in ODI cricket so far

The former Indian captain also holds the record for the highest individual score of 264 in ODI cricket, which came against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2014, a match which India went on to win comfortably.

Interestingly, the above score is also the third highest individual score in the history of List A cricket.

The performance

Rohit Sharma, who returned to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a while, picked up where he left off in India’s last ODI assignment against South Africa as he scored a half-century in the series opener and then another half-century in the final match.

Rohit was involved in a century-long partnership in the games in question, which ultimately turned out to be crucial as India won both the games.

The only batsman to score three double hundreds in ODI cricket added 161 for the second wicket with Virat Kohli in the first match and 155 for the opening wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the decider in Visakhapatnam.

What stood out in both innings was the different style of play that Rohit adopted, where in the first game he was vigilant at the start and in the other game he took the aggressive route.

The preparation

Rohit will now feature in India’s next ODI assignment against New Zealand at home, which will start from January 11.

The right-hander will look to produce a similar performance in that particular series to be in a good rhythm for the upcoming matches, including the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, which is expected to start in March.
