Aston Villa moved within three points of the Premier League leaders after a hard-fought win at Villa Park. Rogers was the difference between the teams, scoring both goals for the home side.
Villa were second best in the opening 45 minutes before a moment of magic from Rogers opened the scoring. The England international cut in from the left flank just before half-time and fired a fantastic finish into the far corner.
However, Manchester United were level before half time. Just after the opener, Matheus Cunha took advantage of a mistake by Matty Cash and scored the equalizer just before half time.
Villa improved after the break and the winner arrived just before the hour mark. In a goal similar to his opener, Rogers drifted in and pulled an effort past Senne Lammens.
Unai Emery’s side held out and took all three points in an important win The Villans. Villa are third in the table, just three points behind leaders Arsenal.
“It’s huge. Every game is important, against no bigger team than United,” Rogers told Sky Sports.
“They’re a tough team to play against and we haven’t had good results against them recently, so we wanted to put that right and we’re just really happy with the three points.
“The fans make football. Playing without fans and playing with fans are two completely different sports. It’s so much fun to play here. We have the crowd behind us and it shows in our performances. They all come here every game and make it a great place to play.”
