Michael Keizer is no stranger to building golf destinations of world class, and his newest company is now taking shape on the Rolling Sand Hills of Colorado. The co-developer of Sand Valley in Wisconsin and son of Bandon Dunes founder Mike Keizer recently revealed a preview of his latest Dream Golf Project: Rodeo Dunes.
Rodeo Dunes, about 50 minutes northeast of Denver, organized its first day of Preview Play this week, giving golfers a glimpse of what is coming. The debut course, designed by the renowned team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, has all 18 holes completely with grass, although the early play was limited to 11 holes while the turf continues to grow up. Nevertheless, the preview offered a strong sense of the character of the course-a layout with only walking that flows naturally through wavy dunes and sandy site.
Fairways at Rodeo Dunes are generous but strategic, well thought out playing and creative shotmen. The opening par 4 sets the tone, with wide landing areas and misleading bunkering that encourage players to find the right corners. While golfers move through the routing, the rolling dunes cover up a lot of the building and reveal dramatic views of the Rockies from raised points.
The landscape around Rodeo Dunes evokes comparisons with courses such as Ballyneal in Eastern Colorado and Nebraska’s celebrated Sand Hills and Graybull. However, the big difference is accessibility. Unlike those private clubs, Rodeo Dunes will welcome the public play – and the proximity of Denver will make it a unique addition to the Dream Golf portfolio.
Preview play is closed for the season for the time being. In 2026 the course will mainly open for the founders, planned for 2027 with a fully public debut. T -shirt times for that inaugural season is expected to be available next spring.
Rodeo Dunes only represents the start for the property. Requesting plans for a maximum of six courses on the site, with a second layout already led by former Coore & Crenshaw Shaper Jim Craig, who marks its first solo design. If the construction progresses as planned, that course can also see a limited example game at the end of next year.
In the meantime, Dream Golf remains his footprint extending past Colorado. In East -Texas, Wild Spring Dunes -with a Tom Doak design -is almost completed, with preview -play expected in the near future.
From the coast of Oregon to the plains of Colorado and now in Texas, the dream golf vision of the Emperor family continues to grow, making minimalist wave experiences of world class more destinations throughout the country.
