Gideon, 61, has been named to a new role as assistant bench coach to Jeff Pickler after serving as the Rockies’ first base and outfield coach for the past seven seasons. He first joined the Rockies organization in 1996 and has served in various player development, coordinator and scouting roles over the past 30 years. He first joined the Major League coaching staff of the Rockies in 2019.
González, 44, will continue his duties as third base coach and infield coach. After his playing career, González joined the organization and has served in multiple roles, including fundamentals coordinator and development supervisor. Prior to the 2022 season, he was named Major League assistant hitting coach, a role he held until midway through the 2025 season, when he transitioned to his current role.
Pacheco, 39, has been named assistant hitting coach for Brett Pill. Pacheco spent four seasons as the hitting coach for his hometown Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes before being named interim hitting coach for the major league team last May. Originally a ninth-round draft pick of the Rockies in 2007, Pacheco had a 14-year professional career that included major league playing time with the Rockies, Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks.
It is currently unknown whether Nic Wilson, who spent last season with Pacheco as interim hitting coach, will remain with the Rockies organization.
In addition, the Rockies also announced that bullpen catchers Chris Rabago and Kyle Cunningham will remain with the organization for the 2026 season.
Rabago, 32, was originally a 13th-round selection of the Rockies in the 2014 draft and joined the Major League staff last season as a bullpen catcher. In addition to his duties as bullpen catcher, Rabago has also been named the Rockies’ catching instructor for the 2026 season.
Cunningham, 31, first joined the Rockies as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He became a Major League bullpen catcher after his professional career ended in 2019, a role he has held for the past seven seasons. Cunningham was given additional game planning and advanced scouting responsibilities ahead of the 2025 season and will retain those duties for 2026.
With these moves, the Rockies Major League coaching staff is largely complete for the 2026 season, although there are still some holes to be filled, such as that of the first base coach. The Rockies have yet to finalize or formally announce their coaching staff.
This is a developing story and Purple Row will provide more information as it becomes available.
