In the last game at home this season, the Colorado Rockies ended up on a high note when they defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 to win the series. Thanks to a quality start and a timely home run, the Rockies take two of the three while they prepare for their last six games of the season.
Kyle Freeland made his last start at Coors Field and made sure he took care of his house. It looked Dicey out of the gate after Mike Trout derived the game with a two -squeeze. He would come in later to score on a one-out single by Jo Adell to give the angels an early 1-0 lead. After surrendering a subsequent single to Nolan Shanuel, however, Freeland went to work and escaped the inning without further damage.
Freeland settled in and continued to mow the angels, even at a certain point with 14 immediately retired. He worked six innings and only allowed one point on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. He finally shot a strike in the first pitch to 19 of the 23 batters with whom he was confronted.
The Fastball worked to set up his slider while he finally threw 85 lines, 61 for strikes. He came across a little traffic in the sixth, but a handy double play ball helped him to escape the jam and to end his afternoon effectively. Freeland has now reduced its era to 5.00 in the year with another start to go.
Speaking of that handy defensive game in the sixth.
Logan O’Hoppe was on the plate with two runners on and bounced a ball deep in the hole to Shortstop. Ezequiz Tovar finished it and made a snaps throw to the second. It was a bit low, but Ryan Ritter used it and in one smooth but clumsy movement the ball shot in the first place where Blaine Crim made the shovel to end the inning.
The Crim Reaper is striking again
The Rockies could not do much against Angels Starter Caden Dana. The young Righty delivered its longest start of the year, went six innings and stood two points on three hits with three free runs and five strikeouts.
Colorado tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second after the Crimea took a walk and came in to finally score on a sacrifice from Kyle Karros. Dana, however, wore a no-hitter in the fourth inning because the Rockies got their big hit.
At pitch above the letters, De Krim got the bat to send him deep to the right field for an opposite field house. It was Crim’s fourth home run of the season, giving the Rockies a 2-1 lead.
Krim would help the Rockies extend their leadership with one in the eighth. After Mickey Moniak and Tovar both reached to distract the inning and went to the scoring position, the Crimea stepped on the record. While he was able to crush another dinger, he got a big heel to the third so that he could score a runner and give the Rockies a 3-1 lead. Krim now has 11 RBI in nine games with the Rockies.
The bullpen holds up again
The slender lead was just enough, thanks to another strong day through the bullies of the Rockies. Jimmy Reget drove through the seventh with three strikeouts followed by a clean eighth of Juan Mejia.
Victor Vodnik stepped in to close the door in the ninth. He ran the lead -off hitter, but a ground ball to the Crimea initially suggested that he quickly steps on the bag and shoot to the second base for the second on a tag. After a two-out single, Vodnik then took out Christian Moore to secure his 10th Save of the Year.
The Rockies will go to the Pacific Northwest from Tuesday to take on the Seattle Mariners. First field is at 7:40 PM MDT for all three games of that series.
