The Rockies were down 7-2 and went up the bottom of the Sevnth. It seemed anything but over.
But then the Rockies began to chip away, score two points in the seventh and placed a six place in the eighth marked by a two-run double from Brenton Doyle, aka “BD” and a two-run monster home run by Tyler Freeman, aka t-free, coming, coming to the coming, coming-up-good-first-thing
De Rockies (34-89) have now won four of their last five and two in a row against Arizona (60-64). The Rockies now only need seven victories to prevent 122 losses from being crowned the worst team in modern times.
Down 7-4, the Rockies started the comeback when Jordan “JB” Beck doubled and warmed up the “El Diamante” Bernabel and Kyle “Gary” Karros, followed with walks to unload the bases with one. That is when Doyle shot a ball deep to the right field and it hit the wall just a little more difficult than Corbin Carroll made in his failed attempt to grab it. Beck and Bernabel scored and Karros scored to third place when the lead of Arizona was trimmed to one.
Warren Schaeffer then decided to hit Kyle “Farm Dawg” farmer for Yanquizel “El Tren” Fernández, who was 2-out-3 with a scored run. The move threw off when Boer connected to a single to the left field player Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who played Miss the ball. Then he closed it well over the home plate over a sliding and smiling Doyle whose Run de Rockies helped to take an 8-7 lead.
That set the table for Freeman, a great batter for contact, but not necessarily power. He showed that he can grow up from time to time with an excalcepting point, which hits a 434-feet homer to set up the Rockies 10-7. It was only his second homer of the season, but it certainly came at a good time to completely drain the diamondbacks.
Outside of Nick Anderson, a Homer gave up, the Colorado Bullpen was excellent on Saturday. Jaden Hill started with a scoreless 1 1/3 with two strikeouts. Ryan Rolison threw a perfect ninth with a strikeout and earned his first MLB victory. Victor Vodnik threw a three-up, three-down ninth and threw Ketel Marte on a called Strike Three during a change. It was all the more impressive because Marte had two Doubles in the night. Vodnik’s performance earned his sixth rescue of the season.
Saturday’s performance followed a similar pattern for Chase Dollander: flashes of Brilliance – as evidenced by his six strikeouts in four innings – but also a high pitch with 95 lines in 4 2/3 innings. Despite giving up one point in the first inning, Dollander bounced back by beating the side in the second. Thanks to the Homer van Bernabel in the second, Dollander went to the third with 1-1 and 32 throws.
In the third things didn’t go so well. Dollander ran to battle people, gave up a double to Marte and received no help from his defense when Ryan Ritter was unable to falter in the relay throw to make Geraldo Perdomo score. Another bad field game came when Karros tried to get Marte home on a Gurriel Jr. Slow grounder, but the pitch was too far from the plate and all runners were safe because the Diamondbacks took a 3-1 lead. By the time Dollander got out of the inning, he had thrown 37 throws into the inning and was 69 in three innings.
Again, Dollander responded with a fast inning and a scoreless fourth fourth fourth. One reason why, because of a phenomenal catch from Doyle, is against the wall to rob Alek Thomas.
In the fifth it was back in trouble when he gave up two singles and then a two -squeeze to Adrian del Castillo, who was unable to create Mickey Moniak to create a diving attempt. He left the game with the Rockies 5-2, after he had given up four points earned on six hits with six strikeouts and two free running.
In the second inning, Bernabel hit his fourth Homer of the season – in just 21 games. This came to a 97.7 mph Fastball that was in the zone and Bernabel sent it 412 feet to midfield.
In the bottom of the third, Goodman wrapped a two-out Double and came around to score Beck on a double to lower the D-backs’ lead to 3-2.
Beck hit two Doubles in the night and raised his total to 22 during the season. Goodman has added one and now has 21 in the year and Doyle added his 15th two-bagger of 2025.
The Rockies will close their four-game series with the Diamondbacks on Coors Field on Sunday at 1:10 pm Antonio Senzatela (4-14, 7.34 ERA) will return from the 15-day IL with a right middle finger blister and will have not officially mentioned on Saturday evening.
