According to Europol, the robot apocalypse is closer than we think.
If we may modify two old statements: ‘The fact that the liberals constantly cry ‘wolf’ does not mean that the wolf will never come’.
Take for example the European obsession with keeping the population in constant panic with dystopian scenarios.
While we continually dodge these catastrophic hoaxes, it’s also true that every now and then one of these scenarios can strike differently.
A new report from the European Police (Europol) warns that in ten years ‘angry mobs of unemployed citizens will rise up in the streets against the hordes of service robots that have stolen their jobs’.
Our new Innovation Lab report looks at current uses, threats and key trends shaping the future of robotics and unmanned systems.
From improved operational capabilities to urgent questions about security, privacy and public trust.

Swarms of enemy drones attacking electricity and water supplies, law enforcement officers fighting rogue robots… dystopian, but so close to our reality.
The Telegraph reported:
“The 48-page Europol document describes how law enforcement will have to tackle robots and unmanned systems (drones, satellites and remote-controlled boats) in a dystopian vision of the future.”
NEW – Europol releases a 48-page report detailing how AI and robots could brainwash humans, spark a human-machine war around 2035 and spark a human uprising with “populist calls to ‘put humans first’.” pic.twitter.com/DYd1vk4XEl

Many have dismissed these predictions as far-fetched as they can be.
“The Europol researchers describe a society in which robots are ‘a regular part of everyday life across Europe, gliding silently through shopping centres, delivering parcels to fifth-floor flats and cleaning public transport platforms at night’.
‘Displaced workers’ in deprived areas of cities then take to the streets in protest and vent their frustration through ‘bot bashing’.”
Robots will replace service jobs, humans will respond GREAT – predicts Europol
The report says that service tasks such as delivery will be fully automated in the near future

“In this uneasy climate, even minor glitches, such as a robot in hospital care administering the wrong medicine, are magnified into national scandals, fueling populist calls to ‘put people first,’” the report said.
