Whittaker announced his decision that his next fight will be at 205 pounds and he hopes his debut will take place in the summer. If Whittaker has his way, his goal is to make his light heavyweight debut in June.
“I’ll join you now,” Whittaker said Submission radio. “I’m joining for June. I want to get in there. I want to fight again. I want to fight in June most likely at 205.”
Although Whittaker is a former welterweight, he knows his frame and size are perfect for light heavyweight. He also said that he has used this time to add more muscle and size to his body.
Robert Whittaker reveals walking weight
Ultimately, even if Robert Whittaker fought at middleweight, he would weigh over 205 pounds.
Whittaker revealed that he would weigh around 108 kilos, which works out to 238 pounds, so he is confident that he will fit in well at 205 pounds.
“I’m going to try to put on a little muscle mass, but I’m not going to put on too much muscle mass,” Whittaker said. “I’m walking around heavy anyway. I’m heavy. I’m walking around like 107, 108 (kilos), just cruising. That’s obviously not shredding, so I want to try to bring that back, shred, just train with food, train with full fuel, and get the most out of my camps, and come into fight week feeling good for once.”
Whittaker also doesn’t want to hear anyone say he’s too small for light heavyweight.
“I’m going to try. I know a lot of naysayers, small this, small that. Shut up, dude. I want to try. I’m at the end of my career, so I gotta try instead of just thinking about what if,” Whittaker concluded.
