“They say the big man above is just testing you to see if you’re worthy of the life ahead – well, mine must be incredible,” Taylor wrote in an Instagram post, pinned from a local hospital on January 7. Indeed, this is not the first untimely setback in the great Briton’s health. He was forced to withdraw from the 212 Olympia final in 2022 after suffering a back injury in training and although he returned to the podium the following year, it may have been too soon and he sensibly sat out 2024. However, the vital recovery time would stand Taylor in good stead, and he came best in class in the Men’s Classic Physique Division of the May 2025 NPC Natural Mid-Atlantic Cup. Now disaster has struck again and the list of injured people is long.
Bodybuilder Rob Taylor describes his injuries after a fall on the ice
“I literally got out of my pickup ready to go to work and boom, I slipped on black ice and fell like crazy,” Taylor said. “I immediately knew it was game over. I was put on the freezing floor for 50 minutes before the ambulance arrived.”
To keep him warm, bystanders rushed to the scene to cover the fallen hero with blankets and hot water bottles. Without that help, the bodybuilder might have suffered hyperthermia or gone into shock. As Taylor’s gruesome Instagram post shows, his right ankle was almost unrecognizable when he was in the ambulance.
“Four scans later and multiple attempts to realign my ankle, the diagnosis is this,” the Pitbull revealed. “I broke my fibula, broke all my ligaments around the ankle, dislocated my ankle in multiple places, broke my ankle socket and fragments of loose bone floating around.”
However, despite this sad setback, Taylor remains cheerful. “I am currently in the hospital with my beautiful wife by my side, waiting for a plan of action for surgery,” he explained. Luckily, the positive side of social media is there to keep him strong. “Arghhh mate, speedy recovery,” said Welsh 212 Olympia legend Flex Lewis. “Each injury has taught me something that I wouldn’t have learned about myself if I was driving 100 miles per hour. Allow yourself to be still and reveal everything! It’s all about the mindset these days!” The sentiment was echoed by many of his fans and colleagues, including fellow Brit and 2024 Mr Olympia, Samson Dauda, who wrote: “Wishing you a speedy recovery.”
As for Rob Taylor’s future on the competitive bodybuilding stage. History has shown that you can never rule this man out. “I still believe 2026 is my year,” he wrote inspiringly. “GROW THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH!”
Everything included M&F would like to wish the Barnsley Pitbull a speedy recovery.
