Middlesbrough -manager Rob Edwards has confirmed George Edmundson is out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Middlesbrough enjoyed a remarkable start to their 2025/26 season Led by former Luton Town and Watford Boss Rob Edwards. The Tessiders are at the top of the championship table after achieving five wins and three draws in their first eight games.
The men of Edwards have looked a well -oiled machine because they want to improve the efforts of the past two seasons.
A large part of BORO’s results is due to their compact and disciplined defenses. Their established back line was downright brilliant and gave the Joint-Mast quantity in the entire division.
However, there is no season without setbacks and Edwards has confirmed an early confirmation for Middlesbrough.
George Edmundson was forced against Stoke City on Tuesday evening in the opening of seven minutes and looked in some inconvenience while he leaned away. Post-game, the Boro boss revealed that the center-ridge felt its hamstring after a minute.
Now it has been revealed via several scans that Edmundson will miss up to six weeks.
Edmundson joins fellow defender Darragh Lenihan on the long-term defensive absent list of Middlesborough. Speaking prior to the trip to Portsmouth, Edwards said The Northern Echo:
“It is a hamstring injury and it seems that it can take about five or six weeks, unfortunately for him. We received that news today.”
A heavy blow to Middlesbrough
Middlesborough has so far been undefeated this championship season, sitting at the top of the table and two points free from Coventry City. Their next opponents Portsmouth did not win in one of their last four games, sitting in a low 17th.
Losing Edmundson, however, is a real blow to the side of Edwards, because he just started confirming his place in Boro’s defense. Edmundson was unable to get rid of the first five games, and started to get more playing time before injury stopped his involvement for an extensive spell.
Edmundson’s injury keeps Boro light in the defensive department. Alfie Jones is 100% fit, and luckily Dael Fry has been released to appear, but depth outside the two is minimal.
Fingers crossed Another injury crisis can be avoided
Edwards has been great to keep Boro consistent this season, the same qualities he showed when he led Luton Town to a fairy -tale promotion. But with the debilitating schedule that is set, it is still to be seen whether the backline of Middlesbrough can handle it.
Boro has passed the absences of Fry and Callum Brittain, with the latter also ready to face Pompey. Losing Edmundson and Lenihan, however, simply offers an even star interest test for the Tesside outfit to overcome.
Injuries hindered the last two seasons of Michael Carrick on the Riverside. It will hope that the same accident is not for Edwards.
If they can endure this storm, Boro will only settle further as serious promotion candidates for this season.
