The primary schedule of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been their Point Guard game in recent years. In particular, they missed a guard with the possibility of shot for themselves next to Anthony Edwards. With Mike Conley who turns 38 before the season starts, second -year guard Rob Dillingham is ready for a greater role.
Dillingham’s talent for shot creation and the ability to generate rim pressure makes him an ideal fit for the needs of the wolves. Although Conley is still a solid playmaker, the wolves need more play, and that is a different skills that Dillingham can offer.
Dillingham is a gifted scorer
Dillingham is undoubtedly a talented shot that can score on all three levels. Despite playing limited minutes in his Rookie season, Dillingham was in the 75th percentile for scoring insulation, and an impressive 64.5 percent of the field goals made was not supported. Every 36 minutes is far from a perfect stat, but it is worth mentioning that Dillingham had an average of 15.3 points per 36 minutes last season. Dillingham achieved eight times 10-plus points despite only 20 minutes six times more than 20 minutes.
With flaring speed and dazzling handles, Dillingham thrives like a finisher. His 62.1 percent shooting on the edge is almost the best among all Timberwolves players. This number is considerably higher than the 50 percent of Conley, and despite playing much less, Dillingham took more shots on the edge than Conley. Apart from Edwards, the wolves had no guard in their rotation who could attack the edge last year at a rapid pace. Dillingham can help with that.

Dillingham is also able to put in the middle and make difficult shots. While he only shot 33.8 percent from outside the bow like a rookie, the Kentucky product is a skilled external shooter and this number is likely to increase. In particular, he shot 44.4 percent from outside the university. In general, it is clear that Dillingham can offer the shot creation that Minnesota desperately needs.
Dillingham is an underrated but competent playmaker
Playmaking is the most underrated aspect of Dillingham’s game. He is of course a skilled and flashy ball handler. However, he is also a very versatile and gifted passer. Dillingham thrives mainly as a Lob -Passer, but he also throws pinpoint access passes and accurate dimes of discs. Rudy Gobert will benefit his capacities such as LOB -Bijger.
Despite limited minutes, Dillingham registered seven times more than five times assists. With a greater role, Dillingham could, on average, closer to this reach of five assist-per game on average. The wolves must play next to Edwards to maximize his skills. This was completely visible in the Western Conference Finals.
Of course there are some concerns about the defense and size of Dillingham. However, it should not deny that Dillingham’s attacking skills are exactly what the wolves need.
