His horse, Invincible Keen clipped heels in deep stretch and dislodged Rispoli. The 7-year-old gelding, trained by Phil D’Amato, was collared by the outriders after the race and walked away under his own power.

“He will undergo surgery as soon as possible on doctor’s advice. Once we have a timetable for a return, we will provide more information. Umberto is focused on one thing: getting back in the saddle as soon as possible. We are very grateful that it has not been worse! Other than the Preakness, Rispoli controlled Journalism to three other stakes victories in 2025, the Santa Anita Derby (G1), Haskell Stakes (G1) and San Felipe Stakes (G2). The pair also finished second in the Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1) and Pacific Classic Stakes (G1).
