Arthur Rinder Knech won his second consecutive victory against Alexander Zverev at the Rolex Shanghai Masters on Monday, where he passed the German 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Frenchman defeated the world No. 3 in five sets in Wimbledon earlier this year and again sent the 28-year packaging with a front guardian display at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. After losing the opening set, Rinder Knech 24 won 29 points on Net in sets two and three and looked fresher in the decisive set, where Zverev regularly bends forward between points.

Rinder Knech has earned a career-best 23 victories in 2025 and is in the fourth round at an ATP Masters 1000 event for the third time. The 30-year-old, who is 3-18 against top 10 opponents, reached that stage in Toronto and Paris last season.

“This is huge,” said Rindernech. “I had my first top 5 victory on a Grand Slam in Wimbledon against Sascha and it happens again. I think I have a little luck against him and able to play my best tennis. I have to play my best tennis to beat a man like Sascha, at number 3, such a steady player and a very good player. I am very happy.”

Rindernech is five places on to No. 49 in the PIF ATP Live ranking and then plays Jiri Lehecka after the Czech Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-4. Lehecka went on to the last 16 out of six of the nine Masters 1000 events.

Zverev was the player with the highest rank left in the draw after Jannik Sinner retired on Sunday due to cramps. The German leaves Shanghai in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, 1,475 points free from the 10th Felix Auger-Aliasy, who is the first player cut outside the top 8 with ninth placed Jack Draper for the rest of the season. Zverev is a double Nitto ATP Finals champion.

In other action, #nextgenatp American student continued his good form with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 triumph against Cameron Norrie. The Lefty won seven of his last eight games and reached its first ATP tour in Beijing last week. He will then play Daniil Medvedev or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Shanghai, where he competes for a career-high no. 36.
