Arne Slot believes that the return of Liverpool -midfielder Ryan Gravenberch can help solve the defensive problems of his party.
Liverpool saw unusually open during their campaign for the season and opening luminaires of the new season. The Reds have admitted twice in their community paint defeat to Crystal Palace, and twice more in their 4-2 victory over Bournemouth on Friday.
Liverpool was gravenbech for both luminaires without defensive midfielder. The Dutchman missed the Palace collision to attend the birth of his child and was suspended for the opening match of the Premier League campaign.
The 22-year-old was a revelation after being reinvented last season in a in-depth midfield role, in third place in the Premier League for interceptions. Slot believes that Gravenberch can “make a lot of difference” of the reliability of his team.
Slot said at his press conference before the pre-match prior to Newcastle, said Slot: “I think he can make a lot [of difference]. At least, if he is the same player, he was like last season.
“If you look back on last season, that he is not there and that we play with very good players but very attacking players-that hurt us [against Bournemouth].
“If he brings his normal level, it will help us.”
Liverpool has added their defensive options with the signing of teenage center-back Geovanni Leoni from Parma. Slot is impressed by the first versions of the defender in the training.
“He has now trained with us three times, I think. If you look at his transfer costs, you would expect that he is pretty mature for his age and that is what I have seen.
“As an 18-year-old, he played with his new teammates as he has been here for some time. There is a reason why we paid the transfer costs because we see him as a clear prospect.
“It also tells you something about the team, when you come to this club, for this team, it is a very good and fun group to start your Liverpool career.”
