Snide, who is also owned by Rice, successfully jumped up the class after a second-place finish in a maiden tilt claim at Aqueduct in September. The 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Tonalist with regular pilot Kendrick Carmouche at the helm, graduated from the first special weight ranks over a mile. Snider returned $58.18 for a $2 win bet.
“It’s a remarkable record and I’m proud to be among the coaches here in New York,” said Rice, who also dispatched fifth-place Trango Tower 5-1. “I was quite surprised, and I think the crowd was too at 28-1.
“It took a long time for her to come to the races,” Rice continued. “I didn’t want to send her back for the first $20,000, so I was just looking for an option. It was quite a surprise.”
Rice, who is also the leading owner on the NYRA circuit this year with 58 wins, credited her entire team, including assistant Marsha Barrs.
“My team has done a fantastic job all year. It’s because of them that we got this done. My office staff, the gymnastics riders, the grooms and the hot walkers, they all work hard every day,” Rice said. “We’re always trying to keep improving our stable and our results. Over the last five to 10 years I’ve really focused on racing in New York, and the stable has definitely improved along the way.”
Carmouche, who earned his 4,000th career win at the Big A earlier this year, credited Rice for the stellar performance.
“Congratulations to Linda Rice. She had such a strong year, as she does every year,” Carmouche said. “I’m just happy to be part of her team. It comes full circle. God bless her and her staff, owners and breeders who support her system. I’m very happy to be a part of that.”
Rice, a 61-year-old resident of Floral Park, NY, shared the previous season record of 164 with trainer David Jacobson (2013). Rice reached the mark of 165 in 2023, but subsequently lost one win due to a medication violation in horses that was relegated Afleet Arlene (21/1/23) from the win earlier that year.
Rice is coming off a solid 2025 season on the NYRA circuit and is closing in on her second year-end title, having already earned trainer honors at Aqueduct Winter (52 wins) and Aqueduct Spring (15). She is currently the leading trainer at Aqueduct’s fall competition with 24 wins.
Rice noted her appreciation for a loyal group of owners who continue to provide her with competitive stock year-round.
“It’s quite remarkable,” Rice said. “I train for Mr. Ralph Evans; Jon Clay of Alpha Delta Stable; Barry Schwartz; Chester Broman; Jane Lyon of Summer Wind Farm and Winning Move Stable to name a few. I am very proud to have horses with them all.”
Rice, who trained the 2015 champion female sprinter The truth saddled her first winner, Contrabass, in 1987 at Garden State Park and now has more than 2,700 wins for a purse of more than $122 million, according to Equibase statistics.
