West -Melton -Trainer Cran Dalgety is well aware of the candidates for this year’s IRT NEW Zeeland Cup, but he does not focus on them. He is busy planning a path for the stable star of his wife Chrissie Republican party (Bettor’s pleasure).
“It’s no different than another cup. We hear every year that this is the best new -Zeelandse Veld we have seen, but I have never seen a weak new -Zeelandse Cup. Is there such a thing?” Said Cran.
In the two miles of last year, the Republican party was a deserving third and Dalgety says he has a little work to get him a fine for his year edition.
“He is probably more extensive. He is not grown there because he has the authorities of legs. When he was on the water walker, it put a little more weight and muscle on him. As a stallion they take a little more work because they are older. He is very healthy at the moment.”
After having had excellent two-year-old seasons in which he won twelve races, the Republican party took a little time to adapt to free for all racing.
“You have great two and three -year -olds who are Star Juveniles and they can be free for all the company and actually many of them get a bloody nose. He got a shock last year, but after the new -Zeeland cup he went on a role.”
After last year’s Zeelandse Cup, he won the Invercargill Cup, Auckland Cup, Cambridge Flying Mile, New Zealand Messenger and Roy Purdon Memorial.
“There is a lot of freeing up allers. It is about kicking your ass as winning. They have to harden mentally and physically. Travels a big thing. If you have a good horse, you have to be a lot on the road.
Dalgety says that the Australian journey and third ends behind Swayzee and jumped to Roem in the Hunter Cup helped the Republican party to grow.
“They come back and you can just see it in their personality. They grow and they kill their friends with that confidence. Something is in it. People can laugh if I try to explain it.”
The six -year -old has a good basis and now it’s time to refine it before the end of the season functions and beyond.
“He will have two, maybe three tests. There is the Canterbury classic here and the Ashburton Flying Stakes. We will certainly go into that. The Kaikoura Cup as a $ 100,000 (race) looks a bit sexy because of the prize money. I know where we want to be and I fill in the holes while we go.”
