According to Allan Mitchell of athletics, Edmonton can be looking for two things at the NHL Trade -Deadline of this season: a goalkeeper and a more aggressive winger.
Mitchell writes in a recent message:
“The club will still have to use the trade market for a goalkeeper -upgrade (if necessary) and would do well to grab the next Brad Marchand at the 2026 Trade Deadline (if there is a player as it is available), but there is a need for young experience of the kind of the kind of the kind [Vasily] Podkolzin last season. “
Mitchell spent time in his last article about how much aggression and determination are in this oilers selection. The loss of Zach Hyam in the final was a big problem, the writer suggests that Edmonton could use more than a healthy Hyman, Trent Frederic and Podkolzin. The three may be enough, but he adds: “For Bowman, finding players such as Podkolzin is the key.”

Why does Edmonton need more of a rough edge?
He notes that the oilers must come first, he claims to beat the Florida Panthers, the oilers need more of what the Panthers have in abundance. The oilers lost their lead in that series and Florida got them out of their otherwise rugged and fast rhythm. He writes: “When the last whistle blew last spring, it was the oilers who looked old and tired; the Panthers looked like a team at the start of something special.”
With Evander Kane now in Vancouver, Bowman will probably keep an eye on a player that he can add in his game with some bark. Matt Savoie and Ike Howard won’t get much in the way of physicality.
Mitchell does not spend time mentioning potential players. Perhaps that is because it is too early to know who will be available and what the costs will be. Brad Marchand would not be expected to be traded until just before the deadline. He was perhaps the most impactful deadline addition in the recent NHL history. If someone of his caliber becomes available in 2025-26, expect the oilers to push hard and make a wave.
This is the case that the oilers cross their fingers in the hope that a first -class player will be moved at the deadline at a sloping deal and will be rented. Some elitental talent and competent attackers go to the market. But is there a cost -effective winger that adds skill and robustness?
