According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly still interested in acquiring Winnipeg Jets defenseman Luke Schenn while on the list of teams Dougie Hamilton would like to go to.
“LeBrun GM Brad Treliving has been mapping the defense market. Looking at his options, for example, we mentioned potential interest in Luke Schenn. I think it’s still there,” LeBrun said during an appearance on Early insider trading on Thursday. “Toronto is a team to watch with Dougie Hamilton. I don’t know if the Leafs can make that work and where that goes with Dougie Hamilton, but I think Toronto is on the list of teams that Dougie Hamilton has endorsed, along with many other teams that are obviously on his list.”
As for the options the Leafs are connected to, this isn’t the first time both names have come up. TSN’s Chris Johnston reported on January 12 that the Leafs were considering bringing Schenn back for a third stint with the team. TSN’s Darrer Dreger speculated on OverDrive on January 8 that if the Leafs wanted to reunite with Schenn, he could be given a “lower round pick.”
It’s worth noting that LeBrun reported that the Devils want a Hamilton trade to happen before the Olympic roster freeze on Feb. 4, putting the window at the time of filing at less than two weeks. Johnston also noted the Chris Johnston Show on January 19 that the Jets are dangling Schenn in trade talks and expect the veteran blueliner to be moved soon.
