Liverpool reportedly have the ‘strongest’ interest of all suitors for a coveted Bundesliga youngster.

The Reds are among a number of clubs to have been linked with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande in recent months, with Fabrizio Romano hinting last week that the 19-year-old is likely to leave his current club in the summer.

German football insider Christian Falk recently called out (via CF Bayern insider) that the Premier League champions should be taken ‘very, very seriously’ in the race for the Ivory Coast international, and a new report has underlined those claims.

Liverpool wants to ‘formally approach’ Diomande

According to Caught offsideDiomande has also attracted the attention of Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but industry sources have indicated that Liverpool’s interest is ‘currently the strongest’.

It is claimed that the Reds are expected to make a formal approach to the teenager in the coming months, viewing him as Mo Salah’s long-term successor at Anfield and a ‘perfect fit’ for Arne Slot’s tactical setup.

The Ivorian has previously stated that he supported the Merseyside club as a child and would like to play in L4 during his career.

Diomande would probably unsettle fans at Liverpool

Although he failed to make much of an impression in the 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Leipzig last weekend, Diomande has had a fine season so far, with seven goals and four assists in 18 games for Ole Werner’s side.

A hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt last month showed his enormous potential, and an article about the official Bundesliga website described him as a winger with ‘fast feet and great pace’.

Such qualities are sure to get fans off their seats at Anfield at a time when Liverpool are playing on the offensive side criticized by many for being too pedestrianand the youth from Ivory Coast also have the productivity to keep up with the pace, as the above statistics illustrate.

Initial reports that the Reds have a strong interest in Diomande and are plotting a concrete approach will likely be taken with a pinch of salt by Kopites until a real offer materializes, but it’s nonetheless an exciting rumor to get behind for now.

Whether this year or next, the time will come when we sadly have to say goodbye to Salah in L4, and whoever is tasked with succeeding him will obviously have huge shoes to fill, although we suspect the Leipzig prodigy will not be deterred by such a challenge.
