Report: Former Calgary Wranglers coach Mitch Love suspended for remainder of season – The Win Column

After being placed on leave by the Washington Capitals, reports are circulating that former Calgary Wranglers head coach Mitch Love has been suspended by the NHL for the remainder of the season. This was the result of an investigation into alleged domestic violence.

What you need to know about Mitch Love

The former Calgary Wranglers and Stockton Heat Coach was hired in 2021 and spent two full seasons with the team, winning the Louis AR Pieri Memorial Award as the league’s best coach two years in a row.

Following this, he was reportedly shortlisted to become the next head coach of the Flames, which he lost to current head coach Ryan Huska. This caused some concern among Flames fans, who thought they were losing a talent like Love to another team.

And they did. Love would be hired by the Washington Capitals in 2023 as one of their assistant coaches. He served in this role until he was suspended by the team pending the outcome of an investigation by the league in September of this year.

According to reports, he has been suspended pending a domestic violence investigation. Interestingly, Seravalli reports that the alleged victim reported this to the teams that wanted to hire him. There’s a chance the Flames were made aware of this, and that may have played a role in why he wasn’t hired at the time.

However you feel about Ryan Huska’s tenure in Calgary, the Flames dodged a bullet by passing on Love when they did.
