Report: David Pagnotta reiterates Maple Leafs and Bobby McMann discussing contract extension
“There is obviously trade interest in Bobby McMann, he is a pending unrestricted free agent, but the Toronto Maple Leafs like him a lot too,” Pagnotta said. “They are currently actively engaged in contract discussions with him and his agent to try and see if they can reach an agreement on an extension.”
“It sounds like that’s the focus right now, but that doesn’t mean they’ve ruled out the possibility of other teams poking around if someone blows them out of the water with a significant offer. That’s something they’re going to seriously consider. We’ll see how that goes, I can imagine something in the five-year period. Five years at a $5 million AAV, I think, is something that will get that done.”
McMann has played primarily on the Leafs’ top line this season, alongside Max Domi and Auston Matthews, and is having a career year. The speedy winger is averaging 15:20 of ice time per game in his career and has produced 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points in 56 games. He usually plays at even strength and has shown all season that he can be relied on as a secondary scoring threat, and as someone with a strong work ethic, every game, including a whopping 126 goals this season.
