Phase 2 of the long -awaited renovation of King’s North at Myrtle Beach National (SC) is on schedule. Under the leadership of architect Brandon Johnson, the much -praised layout is planned to welcome golfers for a reopening at the beginning of October.
Johnson completed the Front-Nine Redesign Front-Nine in the summer of 2024, and the Arnold Palmer Original again closed on 26 May 2025, for the renovation of the rear nine.
Building at the age of 17 at the Arnold Palmer Design Group, Johnson improves the Ruige aesthetics of King North, reproducing his greens and the surrounding area. The result will be a course that offers golfers more strategic options about approach and recovery recordings, in addition to standing out new visuals.
“Players will discover well -known functions that now stand out more striking, both aesthetic and strategic,” said Johnson. “At the same time, various green environment have been completely configured to introduce new challenges and greater variation.”
One of the highlights are important updates of holes 10, 13, 15 and 16, where golfers will see dramatic changes in how the greens and surrounding areas play and appear. Johnson’s vision will also come to life the most lively on two of the most prominent gaps of King North:
● The island green par-3 12th-Johnson has expanded the well surface and modernized the iconic “sc” bunkers, so that they break into seven different traps that still clearly form the letters.
● The Par-4 18th-one-meal the home base of more than 40 bunkers, the gap will now have less but equally impactful dangers, supplemented by a green against a linear pond edge on the right and a massive kicker ramp on the left.
“One of the things that will be fun for players is to see what is brand new, which is very similar, and what exactly remains as they remember, but with a fresh look next to the new elements,” Johnson added.
Founders Group International (FGI), who owns King’s North and 20 other Myrtle Beach area courses, has fully supported Johnson’s vision.
“We gave Brandon the freedom to renovate King’s North, and we were very happy with the results on the front nine,” said FGI President Steve Mays. “We are just as enthusiastic about what shape takes on holes 10 to 18 and can’t wait to welcome golfers back in one of the best jobs of Myrtle Beach.”
FGI has made considerable capital investments in its 21-course portfolio, including recent work at Grande Dunes, Pine Lakes and TPC Myrtle Beach. With almost a dozen renovations completed in recent years and more, the company continues to set the bar higher for Golf in the Grand Strand, which confirms the place as the first course operator in the region
