A renovation has recovered some period details on the outside of this wooden frame from the 1850s and gave some modern updates to the interior. On 250 Cumberland Street, the house with two families is just further away in the Strait of Fort Greene Park.

Within the Greene Historic District Fort, the wooden frame house is one of the two built around 1852 by carpenter George Duryea for owner Ira Ketcham, according to the designation report. A Map of 1855 Shows the two houses that are already on the block and with their indicated back porchs. The Circa 1940 tax photo Shows the houses with their brackets cornices and the Greek Revival window for surrounding. No. 250 is shown with a veranda, partially darkened by a canopy.

By the time of the 1978 designation report, the houses were described as ‘radically changed’. The Tax photo from the 80s Shows No. 250 with Permstone salon level and a changed bending. It was a house of the day in 2013 when it was in estate condition and sold it that year for $ 1,862,500. A LPC approved The renovation of the facade in 2022 included a new façade cladding and the return of a period suitable Stoop and Portiek.

The renovated interior has a studio apartment at garden level with a plywood above. The salon level has an open living room and kitchen. There are two bedrooms and a complete bath on each of the top two stories.

Walls and moldings, including some original Greek revival racks, are painted white everywhere, just like the two coats.

One of those coats is in the front salon and it surrounds a wood firing fireplace. The room also has wooden floors and image rails. A wall was removed to open the space to the kitchen at the back of the floor.

The updated kitchen has white cupboards, an island and a view in the closed veranda. That skylit room has room for a petite desk or chairs. A door offers access to stairs that leads to the back garden.

On the original stairs to the second floor there are front and rear bedrooms and a full bath. The list photos show the smaller bedroom, set up on the street as a full floor suite. The entire bath has a white beadboard and a claw foot bath painted a bright red.

On the top floor, the original wide floor plans are still in place in the hall and the bedrooms. There is another claw foot bath in the bath, this is painted blue. A laundry room has room for true -to -size machines.

Outside has a paved patio space for dining and a glimpse of the garden space shows plant beds with shrubs and perennials.

The mention notes that mechanics have been upgraded and there are mini split units and a fire monitoring system.

Zia O’hara and Douglas (Doug) Bowen from Douglas Elliman have the list and it costs $ 4,862,500. What do you think?
