An Oakbank home has been modernized from top to bottom and now that its owners have downsized, it’s ready to be loved by someone else.
It can also be a handy little earner.
Jon and Heather Cranna purchased the 132 Shillabeer Rd home in 2003, attracted by its idyllic location and enviable views.
How’s that for a prospect?

“We used to live in Hahndorf and loved the hills, but I always wanted to own a vineyard,” says Jon.
“I’ve always bought real estate with my head and not my heart, but this house I definitely bought with my heart and not my head, and we’ve had great times here for 20 years.
“The vineyard overlooks the Onkaparinga Valley and we are surrounded by rural properties – some with horses, some with cattle – it is so beautiful here.”

From the roots of a dairy farm, the bluestone house, built in 1910, has been expanded over the years with stone from its own quarry. It features three bedrooms, an open plan living and dining area, a separate open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area; a pergola and a double garage.

“We had my son’s wedding here this past long weekend with 150 people and it was spectacular,” says Jon.
“We’ve had many parties here and sat on the veranda with a drink overlooking the vineyards – it’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon.”
“Plus, we lease the vineyard so we can enjoy the lifestyle without the hassle.”
Jon says the lease brings in $24,000 a year, while the property’s solar panels bring in another $3,000 to $4,000.
“We will miss it terribly and we have loved every minute here,” says Jon.
