Renault in India wants to reclaim the market share that the Post Covid lost with plans to launch various products in the country in the coming two years and the process has started the renewed multifunctional vehicle triber, the first launch in about four years.

The improved sub-4 meter triber is competitively priced at £ 6.29 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the basic version, and goes up to £ 8.64 Lakh at the top. The ‘all-new triber’ is expected to encourage the sale of the vehicle that was originally launched six years ago and has so far sold more than two Lakh units.

The French car maker, which sold just over 48,000 units in India in 2024, has a market share under 1 percent in the country, compared to almost 3 percent prior to the pandemic.

“Now we are in the way of getting up and this is the first product you see,” said Venkatram Mamillapalle, director of Renault India, during a media briefing. “There will be four products for the next two years,” he said.

Renault is busy buying his joint venture partner Nissan in the Chennai factory and to get full capacity in his attempt to increase the presence on the third largest car market in the world. The plant now runs at half a capacity.

The current portfolio in India comprises the small car Kwid, compact SUV Kiger and the 7-seater triber.

Compact and medium -sized SUVs will soon be launched in India, Mamillalapalle said.

The company has no immediate plans to launch electric vehicles in the country and wait until the market is mature and stabilize the regulations. It regards hybrid vehicles as a more feasible option.
