The Cincinnati Reds received another deal before the Trade Deadline struck on Thursday evening. In a deal with the Sacramento Athletics, the Reds Miguel Andujar acquire and send back-handed Pitching front view Kenya Huggins. Andujar is a free agent after this season.
Miguel Andujar played a limited number of matches in his career at third base and first base, but the last time he got a start on first base was in 2021 when he made two when he was still at the New York Yankees. Since then he is usually played in the left field, with occasional appearance in the right field. But after he has not played a very limited time since the very limited time there in 2021, Andujar started 28 games there this season.
On the plate he is solid in 2025. In his 231 plate performances he hits a high average – .298 of the season. But he has only walked 11 times, which gives him a .329 on-base percentage, even though he is so high. That means if and when he drops, he will really be in a malaise. He also hits .436 with six home runs. Outside of 2018, when he hit 47 Doubles, two triples and 27 home runs in New York, he never shown anything near the power in the rest of his main class career.
Andujar is a right -handed batter and he crushed left -wing left this season. In his 48 record appearances against them, he hit .422/.458/.578. That is not much power given the average that goes with it. And it is all unlikely that it will continue at that pace, because he currently has a Babip of .515 against the left. Before his career, he has hit the left better than judges and a .291/.330/.464 line against them in 476 plate performances.
When he is confronted with rights in his career, he has hit .271/.301/.422. The full lack of walks crushes much of its attacking value. And that will also be kept where in 2025, where he beats a fine .266 against the righties, but only eight walks against them and he leaves a sub .300 on-base percentage against the same hand jars. He hits Righties .399 and gives him a .694 Ops on the year against them. You can view Andujar’s career statistics here.
What Andujar does is give the red more depth. He is an upgrade to the bank. He is probably also an upgrade against left-handed pitching, although it is reasonable to expect his production to take a big dip compared to what it has been against the left in 2025.
Kenya Huggins goes the other way in this deal. The right-handed pitcher spent a large part of his 2025 season in Single-A with the Daytona Tortugas, but recently earned a promotion to High-a Dayton-Zo recently that he has not even thrown for them yet. Huggins has not been rated under the top 25 -prospects of Reds and has had a good year so far. In his 63.1 innings for Daytona he placed a 3.69 ERA with only three home runs allowed, 26 free walking, and he spent 57 batters.
Although not ranked under the top perspectives of Reds, he has some things to work with. His fastball this year has been a maximum of 97 as a starter and he was an average of 93.8 with the field. He also shows both a slider and a change. He is probably a reliever along the line.
