Reds longest home runs of 2025: #4 – Elly De La Cruz – Redleg Nation

After dominating the bottom of the list, Elly De La Cruz finally saw some teammates join him on the list over the past two weeks. But now the Cincinnati Reds shortstop is back on the list this week. If we learned anything from Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux a few decades ago, it’s that everyone likes the long ball. Maybe that wasn’t exactly the conclusion of the two Cy Young Award winners, but long home runs are something people have been talking about for more than a hundred years. But only in the last decade have we really been able to measure their distance with *any* accuracy. Thanks to ball tracking in the major leagues, we can compare 1-to-1 how far a baseball went. Each week for the next few months, we’ll be counting down the 10 longest home runs the Cincinnati Reds have hit in the 2025 season.

In mid-June, Elly De La Cruz made his 13th homerun of the season. His home run in Cleveland went a long, long way as the Reds took on the Guardians.

The story behind the explosion

Cincinnati had just given up four runs in the bottom of the third inning and trailed 5-0. They would get one of those runs back in the top of the 4th inning. Elly De La Cruz came to the plate with one out and the bases were empty. In a 1-1 battle, Reds shortstop Logan Allen saw him try to get a cutter to him, but Allen’s throw was needed at the top of the zone in the inside corner…. but it landed right in the middle and De La Cruz turned it on and almost put it in Lake Erie. Okay, it took him another mile to get to the lake, but you get my point.

Elly De La Cruz also picked up a single in the game to finish the day at 2-4. The rest of the team had just three hits and Cleveland just kept crushing the ball in what turned out to be an 11-2 loss to the Reds.

The home run for De La Cruz was his longest of the season as a right-handed hitter. It also came on a hot streak. From June 7 through June 15, he went 13-33 with four home runs and hit .394/.459/.848.
