Reds hit three home runs to beat the Mets and even the series – Redleg Nation

The big competitions are full of players better than the small competitions are, and after giving up just two home runs in the small competitions, the Cincinnati Reds Jonah Tong welcomed by crushing it at home, running off while they were at the top of Saturday evening. The victory equalized the series and brought Cincinnati back to the .500 mark on the season.

Cincinnati took the lead early with a 2-out rally in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Spencer Steer ran on seven throws and then came in to score when Sal Stewart crushed his first big league -run to Dead Center, just out of reach of a jumping Cedric Mullins on the wall.

In the top of the 3rd, the Mets would put pressure on Brady Singer. Back-to-back 1-out walks were followed by an infield hit to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Brandon Nimmo would follow to make the Reds lead to 2-1. Pete Alonso was then hit by a throw to load the bases again, but Singer got a groundout to end the threat.

Two throws in the bottom of the 3rd Cincinnati got that run back when Matt McLain hit a solo -home run. The Reds would tackle another run in the 4th when Austin Hays hit a ball in the seats in the left field to bring the score to 4-1.

Francisco Lindor would pick up a double in the first half of the 5th inning, but he would not get any further than after he was caught stealing for the second time in the game. In the 6th the Mets would threaten again, this time it was Pete Alonso with the double for New York. He would go to third place on a groundout and Mark Vientos took a walk with two out to put runners on the corners. Brady Singer, however, came through and threw Brett Baty to end the inning and keep the Reds three.

After six strong innings from Singer, the competition was handed over to Scott Barlow in the 7th inning and gave up a Leadoff Home Run to squeeze Hitter Jared Young. He later gets into trouble in the inning when he ran Juan Soto and the Mets Superstar stole the second base to get himself in a score position. Barlow, however, locked up and took Brandon Nimmo to put an end to the threat.

Cincinnati’s attack went to work in the 7th and loaded the bases with one. TJ Friedl cashed in a run with a single before the Mets made a pitching change. Kevin Herget came in and eliminated Noelvi Marte for the second from the inning, but he ran Elly de la Cruz on five throws to bring another point while the Reds pushed their lead to 6-2.

Tony Santillan was in trouble in the 8th inning when he gave up a 1-out single and then a 2-out Double that brought two men in a score position. Just like Barlow, a collection earlier, Santillan was able to pick up a strikeout to make the runners strand and end the inning.

Emilio Pagan took over for the home club in the 9th inning. After he had beaten Cedric Mullins to start the inning, he would give a double to Francisco Lindor and a single for Juan Soto. A 58-foot splitter received from Jose Trevino for a wild pitch and brought in Lindor to score. Pagan took his second strikeout from the inning against Brandon Nimmo before fighting with Pete Alonso, but he would hit to end the game while Cincinnati held a 6-3 victory.

Important moment of the game

Sal Stewart’s 2nd inning Thuis Run. It placed the red in the front and they never let go of their lead.

Notes worth mentioning

The outing of Brady Singer lowered its era of the season to 3.98. Since July 27, he has made eight starts and has placed a 2.11 ERA with 14 free runs and 52 strikeouts in 47.0 innings. He has only given up two home runs and only 32 hits during that piece. He did not give up home runs in his last five starts, all of whom went six full innings.

The Reds only had six hits in the day and no red had more than one, but half of their hits were home runs and those are the best types of hits to get.

Both teams ran a lot, but the Reds only threw out again than they were walking, while the Mets 11 strikeouts had their five free running.
