On a day when the Reds knew they needed a victory, things couldn’t be much worse. Andrew Abbott ran the first batter and then gave up a single to start the game. Mark Viento then took an Infield single to bring in a run and make it 1-0. Brandon Nimmo then hit a long fly to the middle, but TJ Friedl jumped on the wall and robbed him of a home run, but it would bring a run as a sacrificial fly to bring the score to 2-0. A single could follow and tackle a third run for the Mets.

Neither of the teams would do it again at the top of the 3rd inning. That is the moment when Mark Cientos hit a 427 feet explosion to the power stacks that push the lead from New York to 4-0. Cincinnati would get that run back in the second half of the inning after Matt McLain hit, went to third place on a double from TJ Friedl and then scored on a sacrifice of Noelvi Marte.

In the first place, the Mets came back to work with a 2-out rally. Francisco Lindor got things with a double and then he came to score when Juan Soto followed with his own double, while the lead for the visiting club bed immediately returned to four points.

The Reds picked up back-to-back 1-out singles in half of the 4th inning. Tyler Stephenson, fresh from the injured list, then doubled in the left field corner. Austin Hays easily scored from second base. Spencer Steer got the Golf and while the pitch hit him on the plate, he slid headfirst and got his hand under the tag to get on the plate just before a tag that got his shoulder, making it a 5-3 ball game. Ke’bryan Hayes then stood in line for a sacrifice stroke that brought Stephenson of the third base to reduce the deficit to one point.

New York would pick up two more singles against Andrew Abbott in the first place of the 5th inning. The second came out with two and it ended the day before the Reds Lefty when the club went to the Bullpen to get Connor Phillips. He was able to let Francisco Alvarez pop up to Ondiep Right Field, both runners on the bases.

Phillips returned for the 6th and got in trouble by walking back-to-back hitters with one out. But he was able to get out when Pete Alonso ended up in a doubles. The Reds received a single from Miguel Andujar to start the inning and then saw Spencer walk with one out. Cincinnati then sent Santiago Espinal to squeeze for Andujar while the Mets made a switch to the bullpen to get Ryne Stanek to face Tyler Stephenson. Stanek hit him out, but the last throw came away from Francisco Alvarez and it allowed two two prawns to go on a base and to place the tanding and go-ahead runs in score position. Ke’bryan Hayes fell behind 0-2, but fought back to walk and load the bases for Matt McLain. He played three fields to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 8th inning it was still a 5-4 ball game with the Mets in front. Gavin Lux Pinch Hit for Santiago Espinal and took over as the designated batter of the team. He grabbed an Infield single on a helicopter above the pitcher. Spencer Steer just missed a game ting hit on a line drive along the line in the right field that landed about 2 centimeters on the wrong side of the white line. He would later appear behind the plate on an error territory. With Tyler Stephenson against Tyler Rogers, the Reds called on Will Benson to hit and try to get the Peloton Matchup. It did not work because Benson also emerged in the error area to the third baseman to end the collection.

Emilio Pagan took two strikeouts in a perfect top of the 9th inning. That sent the game to the bottom of the inning with Cincinnati who needed at least one run against Edwin Diaz and the Mets. Ke’bryan Hayes took a single in the middle to start the inning. Matt McLain followed with a walk to get the top of the line -up for the Reds. TJ Friedl followed his own walk to load the bases, so that Noelvi Marte brought without outs to the record, but he could not get through while he hit a 6 -pitch in a bat. Elly de la Cruz then came on the plate and looked at five throws and threw out without waving the bat. That left the game to Gavin Lux and he was in a fantastic game by Luisangel Acuna in second place and a covering Edwin Diaz to end the game.

Important moment of the game

There were plenty of choices here, but the last game of the game nods. It was an excellent game from Acuna to not only keep the ball in the infield, but also to make one.

Notes worth mentioning

The Reds are now 70-71 in season and six games from the last wildcard spot.

No Reds Hitter had more than one hit in the game.

Both teams left nine runners on the base, but the Mets had three hits with runners in score position and the Reds had only one.
