‘Red see’, the Minaur Fumes at ‘Dasted Opportunity’ in US Open Lower

Alex de Minaur played on Wednesday in his sixth big quarterfinals at the US Open against Felix Auger-Aliassy and for the sixth time he fell short. The disappointment of the hard -working Aussie was clear.

“At the moment I see this as a wasted chance. It’s difficult,” said the Minaur. “There is no other way to probably deal with this, but only see, and that’s what it was today. Today was an opportunity to break new terrain.

“I was not nearly near the level where I had to be. That is frustrating because you don’t get these opportunities often.”

The Minaur had many chances to expand the match to a fifth set against the Canadian. He entered the game as the number 8 player in the PIF ATP ranking compared to number 27 for Auger-Aliases.

The 26-year-old struggled with his serve and made only 42 percent of his first portions. That is why the Minaur fights from the start of a tough battle.

“I think the biggest thing for me is just my serve. My serve left me in big competitions,” said the Minaur, who has double errors twice in the fourth set of Tie-Break. “I stopped myself and gave myself every chance to expand this match and be in the fifth set like I did against Novak in Wimbledon. But I mean, it’s pretty hard to win a high -quality game that I did today.

“It is something that should improve, because if not, then I will bring myself to the later phases of these tournaments in the later phases of these tournaments.”

The Minaur is undoubtedly one of the most the most gritdy competitors in the ATP tour and that was apparent when he pushed the competition from four set to four hours and 10 minutes. The eighth seed had only lost one set on the way to the quarterfinals.

“If I look back on this entire US Open -campaign, I have to be honest with myself. I have not felt at my best in terms of how I played on the field,” the Minaur said. “I feel that I did exactly what I had to do to get the job done, but I didn’t really feel at ease on the field. Today was another match of exactly that.”

The minaur admitted that he ‘saw red’ after the defeat. He continued to position success, just not to take the next step.

“It is very difficult if you have worked so hard for something and that you constantly put yourself in positions to prove people in a certain sense, right?” Asked the minaur. “But again, you fall a bit, and especially this time it is a difficult one to take. There is no beating around the bush. It is one of those matches that I would like to play again.

“There are other times that the opponent has a lot to say and played quarter -finals where I played Jannik, and he was just too good and there is not really much that I could have done. But I have the feeling that it was on my racket, and it’s a shame.”

This season, the Minaur has a record of 41-16 according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index and is seventh in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. He will now focus on the qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals for the second consecutive year.
