S2 of the Steven Knight period drama returns in January.

A second season of A thousand strokes , cwritten by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, House of Guinness), will be shown on Disney+ in January.

The series sees Malachi Kirby (Small axe) returns as Hezekiah Moscow and reunites with Erin Doherty (Adolescence) as Mary Carr – leader of the all-female gang, the Forty Elephants – and Stephen Graham (Adolescence) as Henry ‘Sugar’ Goodson.

Inspired by the true stories of a group of characters who fought for survival in the unforgiving East End of London in the 1880s. A year later, Hezekiah is a shadow of the man he once was, while Sugar Goodson is estranged from his family and drinks himself to death. Just as Wapping is about to breathe his last, Mary Carr storms back into town with her loyal second, Alice Diamond, to reunite her gang and reclaim her crown. As always, Mary has a plan; one that will involve everyone she holds dear. And this time it’s riskier than ever.

The returning cast for season two also includes James Nelson-Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson, Darci Shaw as Alice Diamond, Hannah Walters as Eliza Moody, Nadia Albina as Verity Ross, Morgan Hilaire as Esme Long, Jemma Carlton as Belle Downer, Caoilfhionn Dunne as Anne Glover, Jason Tobin as Mr. Lao, Susan Lynch as Jane Carr, Daniel Mays as William ‘Punch’ Lewis, Gary Lewis as Jack Mac, Aliyah Odoffin as Victoria Davies and Robert Glenister as Indigo Jeremy. Rounding out the cast for season two are Ned Dennehy as Bull Jeremy and Catherine McCormack as Sophie Lyons.

The series was created by Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders,” “House of Guinness”) and is executive produced by Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters for Matriarch Productions, Damian Keogh and Kate Lewis for The Story Collective, Tom Miller and Sam Myer for Water & Power Productions, and Jonny Richards for Disney+.
